Dedication from the 1962 Kampus

It is with honour and deep respect, we, the Annual staff and students of Kamloops High School dedicate our yearbook to Mr. ]. McIlwain. M.A., LL.B., B.Ed.

Mr. McIlwain was born in Glasgow, Scotland where he obtained his elementary and secondary education. He attended the University of Glasgow where he got his Master of Arts degree in "honours" Classics and his Bachelor of Laws degree and later, in Canada, at the University of British Columbia he obtained his Bachelor of Education degree.

At the start of the war, he applied for a position in the Royal Artillery but by a clerical error he ended up serving in the Royal Air Force.

While enlisted, he was a radar technician and mechanic. Following the war, he travelled to Egypt where he became Principal of a Teachers' Training College. His various holiday trips include seeing France, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Belgian Congo, and French Equatorial Africa. Following five years in his Egyptian position he returned to Scotland and then came to Canada. Before coming to Kamloops, Mr. McIlwain attended the University of British Columbia and taught in Quesnel.

Mr. McIlwain has taught mainly English and Latin during his eight years of teaching in Kamloops, and at present he is teaching all Latin courses in the school. The students and staff of Kamloops High School will long remember Mr. McIlwain for the fine work he has done here.
