Jock Morse

1930 - 1970

Dedication from the 1967 Kampus

This year's annual is dedicated with much love to Mr. Morse, first to thank him for the help, understanding and friendship bestowed so unselfishly upon us, and to tell him how proud we are that one in our midst should be chosen for the citizen of the year award out of all of Kamloops.

Mr. Morse started to teach in 1930 in the old Kamloops High and has taught History, English, and Guidance. He has constantly devoted himself to Kamloops students these many long years, leaving only once, for four years, during the war. His long-time residence in Kamloops is not from want of better opportunities, for he has had many offers, but from love of his home and ours. He becomes involved personally with his students whom he treats as young adults and as he would his own children. Some that I am sure hold him in special regard are the members of the band with whom he travelled overseas to the world championships. In fact all band members from 1947 to 1954 are indebted to him for, as their manager, he raised thousands of dollars for their excursions.

His enthusiasm to help people is shown by this record: he has been president of the Gyros, of District No. 24 Teachers Association, of the B.C. School Councillors, and founder and president of the museum from 1934 until 1966.

Still with us by request after his retirement year, as teacher and councillor, he is continuing the work that he has done so well and even when he does leave his presence will continue to be felt in this school for many years.
