His workbooks are widely used by schools throughout the province and elsewhere.
Dr. Hebden conducted many workshops for Chemistry teachers in SD 73, and donated massive amounts of materials to science laboratories at KSS and other schools.
He provided much leadership to the Gifted and Talented Programs at KSS, District Honours Banquet and Olympics of the mind.
During the years Jim Hebden taught at KSS he inspired many students to pursue careers in science. His Chemistry magic shows were always a popular part of School Open Houses, Fun Fairs and other occasions. He was always available to give extra help through he sign which hung in his classroom "Trouble, call the Doctor!" followed by his home phone number.
On his retirement, the Students' Council established the James Hebden Award for Top Chemistry Student. It was the first award established at South Kamloops Secondary.
