Nick Kalyk

1961 - 1979

Early in his teaching career Nick taught Mathematics and Chemistry and gradually he focused on teaching agriculture.

Nick is fondly remembered by KHS students, parents, staff and the community as the “father” of the KHS Rodeo and the KSS Cattle Company. His practical approach to teaching agriculture, combined with his enthusiasm not only formed a bridge between the local agriculture community and the School, but also demonstrated to other schools in BC that agriculture could be exciting and practical.

The KSS Rodeo affiliated with the BC High School Rodeo and the National Rodeo Association. High school rodeo, largely due to Nick’s leadership, continues to be a popular activity in the Kamloops area and in BC.
