Ruth Harrison

1926 - 1959

  • Taught at KHS 1926 to 1959
  • Taught Math, History, Composition, Geography, and in later years Ruth was the School’s Librarian
  • Always an advocate for students
Students describe her as:
  • "She gave us a fantastic appreciation of social rights, union power, politics, history and a love and passion for the rights of others."
  • "Miss Harrison demonstrated great respect for individual students and their learning"
  • "She developed and taught along with subject matter an approach to study and writing examinations."
  • "She encouraged us to reach to become the best we could be and was the first to celebrate our successes."
  • "In retirement at White Rock she relished in the visit of former students and their accomplishments."
  • One former student recalls: “ It was close to year end examinations and Miss Harrison was mentioning the opportunity she had arranged for history students to attend the Canadian Club and hear a presentation by a prominent federal politician. I said I’d like to hear him but that I needed to study for the year end examinations. She responded by stating: Never ignore your education for the sake of studying”. This was typical of the wise advice a very caring and devoted teacher gave to students.
