2002/2003 the last year for "Kam High"!

In the fall of 2003, Kamloops Secondary School and John Peterson Secondary School were combined to create the new "South Kamloops Secondary School". Kam High Grad - Victor Bifano (class of 1968) is at the helm of the new school.

For many of us, JP was our junior secondary and Kam High our senior secondary, but things have changed in recent years. Here's a quote on the history of John Peterson from their web site:

John Peterson Junior Secondary first opened on November 20, 1959. The principal was C.R.A.W. Embleton, and the school served grades 8 through 10. In 1985/86 John Peterson Junior Secondary became a French/English Immersion School. More changes came when in 1998 John Peterson Junior Secondary became John Peterson Secondary serving grades 8 through 12.

Much discussion and controversy have surrounded this decision. For details, see the following public documents:

September 2002 Report for Public Discussion

October 2002 Recommendation to the Board

January 2003 Letter to Parents

The reorganization is now a reality. See photos of the new South Kamloops Secondary School here.
