Favourite Memories
Rick Methot, Class of 1973
Favourite memories of my days (and some of my nights) at Kam High were spent on the football field as part of the Kam High Red Devils. I played in the early Nykorak era 70-71 with the most exciting game being the Okanagan final against the Immaculata Dons at Kelowna's Apple Bowl in 71.
We had never won a game there and were losing 12-0 at half time, Nykorak with his usual confidence building technique left the dressing room in disgust over our first half performance. We basically told each other that we had not come all this way to lose and that if we don't do something in the second half it would be a long ride home with only one person speaking. Immaculata didn't know what hit them, we scored 24 straight points and won the game 24-12, Richard Christianson and Randy Villeneuve gave us a motivational speech in the dressing room that day that would have made any professional coach proud. My personal highlight was scoring 12 of those 24 points and receiving an league all star for tailback that night at the banquet. The bus ride home that night was a most enjoyable trip especially because coach Nykorak let some of us bring our girlfriends on the bus.
