Given a Chance
Todd Wiseman, Class of 1983
I will always remember Kam High for being the place that gave me the opportunity to construct the road I would travel in my life. For me I was fortunate to have a certain ability in sports and the games and practices that came of that shaped me forever.
From the iron fist and mental toughness of Rick Nykorak to the steely eyed look down the bench from Jack Buckham many a boy who put their heart out there for the red & black were forever changed. While participating in athletics during 1981 - 1983 I was not fully aware of the impact of our achievements on KSS until I returned as a coach in 1995. It was during a cool crisp autumn football practice as I was standing with Coach 'O' that I noticed one of the players wearing a Kam High football t-shirt and on the back of his t-shirt there were three words, one of which had not been there during my time wearing that very same equipment and practicing on that very same field. That word was TRADITION. It struck me as to the weight of our efforts back in the early 80's and perhaps building on my original thought as to KSS shaping my future, perhaps we all have given back as much if not more to be able to shape the past of this great institution.
They may be able to take the letters off the front of the building but they can not take the blood, sweat and tears off the floor or out of the ground and try as they might I know in my heart they can never take the words off the back of that t-shirt...........
Thank you Kam High for all that you have been, what a beautiful place this was.......
