Kenneth Douglas Lyons April 24, 1937 - September 20, 2016

It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for his life that we announce the passing of Ken on September 20, 2016 at Royal Columbian Hospital. With Pat by his side and just days after celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary, Ken's valiant fight against Lymphoma ended. Mourning him deeply will be his wife Pat (Zielie), children Caren Moon (Bill Gough), Cori (Maynard) Witvoet, and Darren Lyons; his beloved grandchildren Stefanie, Brad and Natasha Lyons and Daymen Witvoet. Also missing him will be nieces and nephews Lynda (Dennis) Shaw, Allan (Sharon) Lyons, Ken Lyons, Dale Lyons, Elizebeth Geluch, Deborah (Greg) Bannister, Jay Lyons, and Nancy (Grant) Bond. He will also be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Ken (Jane) Zielie, his cousins, many members of Pat's family, his former workmates, his race track buddies and countless close friends. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Edith Lyons, his brother Bob, and his nephew, Michael Lyons.

Ken was born in Kamloops, B.C. on April 24, 1937. He graduated from Kamloops High School in 1955.

Ken apprenticed as a pressman at the Kamloops Sentinel, after which he moved to Calgary, Alberta and worked at the Calgary Herald until 1965. While in Calgary, he met Pat, and they were married on September 15, 1962. After surviving one last blizzard in Calgary, Ken moved his family to the west coast of B.C. and went to work at Pacific Press, where he worked until his retirement in 1998.

Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing the ponies, sunny winters in Arizona, and attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Ken and Pat also loved travelling with their close friends and relatives.
