Peter Wing

Class of 1929

Peter Wing was a respected business leader in Kamloops from the 1930's to the 1990's. He was the first mayor of Chinese ancestry in North America and the first mayor of Asian ancestry in Canada.

  • Alderman for the City of Kamloops from 1960 to 1965.

  • Mayor of the City 1966-1971.

  • Served as a District Governor for Rotary International during the 1980's.

  • Member of the Board of Directors and served as President of the Board for the BC Automobile Association for many years.

Awards Peter received for dedicated community service include:
  • Paul Harris fellow of Rotary International,

  • Order of Canada,

  • Order of BC,

  • Honorary Life Member of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce,

  • Honorary Life member of B.C.A.A.,

  • Queens Jubilee Medal,

  • Canadian Council of Christians and Jews special recognition for exemplifying and promoting good inter-racial relationships.

  • Freeman of the City of Kamloops.
