Richard was born in Kamloops, BC, happy and healthy to Mary and David Askew on October 17, 1950. He was a brilliant, multi-talented, kind and generous boy. He touched the hearts of all those who came into contact with him. At an early age, he excelled in sports and was involved in competitive ballroom dancing and figure skating. He had great success as a championship figure skater and he gained endurance and tenacity from those demanding figure skating days. His love of music and musical instruments was evident and he played bass guitar in the very successful Kamloops band "The Intruders". Richard attended U.B.C. majoring in economics and was invited into the honors program. Later, he joined his father Dave in the hotel business. This led him to his passion; land development and property acquisition. He received great joy from seeing one of his projects come together and he owned 8 companies before his 25th birthday. With Joannie by his side, he developed waterfront property in the Shuswap, bought and managed several hotels and restaurants, worked in the oil industry and eventually went into Real Estate. He worked with Realty World, ReMax, Century 21 and finally Fair Realty in Castlegar. At Fair Realty, he and Joannie worked very hard to make their clients dreams come true whether it was their first home or their last. He was instrumental in the development of Woodland Drive Estates where Richard and Joannie made their home. He was involved in bringing business in to town and enjoyed watching Castlegar evolve into the beautiful City it is today. Richard just had a way of making everyone around him feel better. His humble kind nature and of course his dazzling smile would always greet you. He was an animal lover and a home body, he loved just being home with Joannie. He was a kind, supportive and nurturing husband and there was nothing that he wouldn’t do for his Joannie. He loved his boat and just being out on the water cruising the Arrow or Kootenay Lake. Richard was always happy being surrounded by family and friends and enjoyed visits from his sister Helen and her family and his brother Allan and his family. He also enjoyed quiet times at home and was a voracious reader who was interested in world news, politics and history. He was fascinated with World War II and he enjoyed having conversations with his late father-in-law Alfred LaGreca about World War II as Alfred was a soldier that survived the first wave on D-Day and had first-hand knowledge of that time. To his nieces and nephews he was a very patient and understanding uncle who always gave them good advice. Through all the years his deep love for his wife Joannie was always present and he was well known for getting beautiful cards for special days and writing very romantic, some might call them mushy, but always very thoughtful words to his beloved wife. Trips to places like Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Hawaii and Florida were always made special by thoughtful gifts. Their deep love for each other survived a renovation at their home in Robson which was very challenging, as they did all the renovations themselves, but provided a beautiful home for a number of years. He was an animal lover and always had kitty cats whom he adored. When they lived in Robson their home became a magnet for all the wildlife who knew they could be assuredn that it was a safe place to visit, find something to eat or have their babies. During the past few years Richard had numerous health challenges but always worked very hard to regain his health. Joannie made sure he had the best care possible and was always researching and asking questions of his doctors. Richard passed away on May 9, 2017. He was predeceased by his father David, mother Mary, father-in-law Alfred, mother-in-law Isabelle and aunt’s uncles and cousins.

We are all saddened by the sudden passing of Cheri MacMurchy in February 2022. She was a caring and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put family first in her life. Cheri will be sorely missed by her two children; Laura Tjader (Mike) and Kyle MacMurchy (Jenn), her grandchildren; Zachary, Sara and Drew Tjader and Reid and Kaylee MacMurchy as well as her great-granddaughter Ayva Tjader. She is also survived by her two sisters; Lorraine Pucci and Karri Bertolotti. Cheri was pre-deceased by her mother and father; Mario and Frances Bertolotti. Cheri's favourite pastime was to go camping and spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-granddaughter. Cheri ensured she was always in tow with her delicious baking and goodies to make you feel special and loved. She took pride in her beautifully arranged flower baskets and fussed over them to perfection. Family dinners and special occasions will not be the same without her.

Steven Ronald Bregoliss took his final flight on the evening of May 6, 2016. Steve passed away peacefully at RIH with his three children by his side.

Steve was predeceased by his father Ronald Bregoliss. He will be greatly missed by his mother Thelma Bregoliss, son Ron Bregoliss, daughters Shana (Chris) Semrick and Kristin (Mark) Ignacz and granddaughters Leaf and Hannah.

Steve attended St. Ann’s Academy and Kam High before graduating from UBC as a civil engineer in 1973. He joined his father Ronald in Bregoliss Construction and Plateau Construction. In addition to contract work with Lafarge Canada, Steve’s quarrying and road building contracts led him all over BC.

In 1999, Steve accepted a job as the head of Texada Quarrying. Over the next ten years, he would help develop the business into the largest aggregate operation in Canada.

Steve’s love of flying his Cessna 210 plane was matched only by his extensive resume as an avid outdoorsman. In addition to his involvement with the Kamloops Flying Club, Heffley Creek Gun Club and Kamloops Trap and Skeet Club over the years, Steve also enjoyed hunting trips with his closest friends. He led fishing excursions at the Dean River, Bella Coola, and his love of fishing led him to Florida on an annual basis to wrangle the mighty tarpon fish. Amongst it all, Steve found solace in returning to the family farm where he was greeted by his beloved dog and greatest companion Buddy.

Steve always found room at the table for extra guests and welcomed everyone with open arms.

February 12, 1950 – January 10, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce Val’s passing after a brief fight with cancer.

Predeceased by her granddaughter Jessica in 1995, Val leaves her loving daughter Donna, grandchildren Michael and Nevaya, companion Mario and many special and loved friends.

Born in North Vancouver, Val spent her childhood in the Savona area. Several years into motherhood and the secretarial pool, Val ventured to UBC where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1989. Following work at the VGH Burn Unit, Val returned to Kamloops to work in Hospice and as a grief counsellor and various positions in RIH including patient advocate. All roles in Val’s life were executed with compassion, true spirit and gentle care of others. While Val enjoyed many great friendships, good wine and camping, her greatest pleasure was being a grandmother. Her endearing smile and ready laugh were tonic to our souls.

John "Brent" Brentnall Daykin, 72, joined his Lord in heaven on April 12, 2023. He was born July 16th, 1950, in New Westminster to Francis and Evelyn. Growing up, he moved around a lot until settling in Bridge Lake, where he became a true cowboy with his late brother Ron. Later, he moved to 100 Mile House and started a family before finally moving to Kamloops in 2007, where he touched the lives of many and was known as a loving and caring man. Since 2007 he worked at Home Hardware and was loved and appreciated by everyone he worked with. He is predeceased by his mother Evelyn, father Francis, and brother Ron. Brent is survived by his two sons Matt (Nicole) and Andrew (Aireal), as well as, his brother Stan (Carol), his sister Beth (Harold), and his many nieces and nephews.
