VALEDICTORY ADDRESS

We are gathered here this evening to mark the completion of our high school days. As we look back upon the six years we have spent in Kamloops High School we realize now how quickly they have gone. During these six years we have seen Kamloops High School grow tremendously; from a school with 20 Divisions to one with 32 Divisions; from a small inadequate school, to a now modern school. We have seen an unknown 20-piece band grow under the direction of Mr. McMurdo, to over 100 pieces. This band, you will remember brought honor to our school, and community, by placing first in the Waterloo Music Festival. We too, have grown from children into full grown men and women, ready to face the world, knowing full well our potentialities.

During our stay at K.H.S. we have learned not only academic abilities, but through our physical education, classes, social activities, and school fellowship we have learned to get along with our fellows and to respect the opinions of others. We have made countless friends during these past six years, and we shall always cherish and carry memories of these friendships wherever our chosen vocations may take us.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to our parents and teachers for the great amount of patience and understanding they have shown us. They helped us form and mold our characters. It seems very inadequate to express in a few words this evening, our appreciation to the teachers of K.H.S. for their making our high school careers such a success, however, we realize that our thanks can be shown by the manner in which we use the knowledge they have endeavored to give us. They, with the help of our parents, and church groups have prepared us to live good, clean Christian lives as Canadian citizens.

It is up to us, the first graduates of this new school to prove to our parents, teachers, and community that the money which they have spent in building this school, was money well invested.

Just as we now hope that K.H.S. is a better school for our having attended it, I hope that when our lives draw to a close we shall be able to look back over the ears and realize that the world is a little better place to live in, because of our having lived in it.

The foundation for this hope has been well laid at Kamloops High School. Now that the foundation is well laid, it is up to us to step out into the world and to build the super-structure for ourselves.
