VALEDICTORY ADDRESS

I have tonight the honor and pleasure of presenting the Valedictory Address for the graduating class of 1957.

This evening we mark the completion of our high school days. For six years we have roamed the halls of this dear old school, and it is with regret that we prepare to leave, some of us for further learning at university, others to try to use the knowledge that we have gained, to advantage in the work-a-day world. In the years gone by, we have made many friends, and tonight we may see some for the last time, and yet others we will associate with the rest of our lives. When old K.H.S. friends meet, memories will be
Recalled - incidents all the way from the sublime to the ridiculous. Who in this graduating class can forget the time when in our first year at the school a fellow classmate levelled a toilet by throwing in a piece of sodium? Will any of us ever forget the solemn occasion which is the fulfilment of our dreams? High school has been a delightful and very worthwhile experience. It has been by no means an easy life with no worries and such, for all we have to do is look back upon the years and recall the many who have dropped out because they were not able to stand the pace.

During our six years at K.H.S. we have secured a great variety of benefits. Benefits which will help us to live a better life. We have secured the knowledge for which we sought admission. Through our physical education program, we have acquired muscular co-ordination, endurance and above all, such qualities as sportsmanship" obedience and co-operation. Through our various social functions and sports activities we have learned
to get along with our fellow beings and to respect their opinions.

Now as we look back upon our struggles through school we realize perhaps for the first time that our success would not have been possible without this school, its teachers and councillors and of course our parents, for without their patience, advice and understanding we would not be here tonight. I hope that in the days to come we will be
able to prove our worth to the school board and community in providing us with such a fine school. The many facilities in our laboratories and gymnasium have made our task that much easier.

To the teachers and wise counsellors we owe a debt we cannot possibly repay in any way. It seems very inadequate to express in a few words this evening, our appreciation to the teachers of K.H.S. for their assistance in making our high school careers successful, so we feel it is better to say our thanks by the manner in which we use the knowledge they have endeavored to give us. It is unfortunate Mr. McMurdo could not be here tonight.
This one sad note stands above all others on this momentous occasion.

Our parents, perhaps, deserve most of the credit for our success. Their confidence in us at times when the going was rough has moulded our characters to what they are. Their insistence on us going to school on those cold mornings when we would have liked to stay in bed has paid off this evening, and we owe our sincerest thanks to them, our parents.

Our future success depends greatly upon the important factors of our present success. The foundation for our success has been well laid and it is up to our individual selves to take advantage of this well-laid grounding and to build on it to the best of our ability.

In closing I would like to leave with this thought - that no matter where our chosen professions may take us and although time will dull our memories, I doubt if the fond memories of this faculty and our loyalty to this school will ever be dulled in the passing of time.
